CHAPTER
ANNIVERSARIES
New Jersey and Syracuse Chapters Reach Milestone
Anniversaries
July 2008 marks milestone anniversaries for two chapters—New Jersey
and Syracuse. Sixty years ago on July 14, 1948, nine Society members
requested authorization to form a new chapter, to be known as the New
Jersey Chapter. This year also marks the 40th Annual All-Industry Day
for the New Jersey and Central Jersey chapters. An Oct. 17 celebration
is planned. Read more about
the New Jersey Chapter. Fifty years ago, six members petitioned the
Board of Directors for permission to create a Syracuse
Chapter as of July 1, 1958. Read
about the chapter’s 48th annual I-Day on Oct. 9, featuring
political consultant James Carville and motivational speaker Vince
Lombardi Jr. Congratulations New Jersey and Syracuse! |

VITAL
INDUSTRY ISSUES
Post-Katrina Litigation and the Mississippi Homeowners
Market
Since
Hurricane Katrina made landfall in August 2005, a storm of litigation,
investigations and legislative proposals have swept through the Gulf
Coast and into Washington. In the July CPCU eJournal article “Troubled
Waters Continue in Mississippi: Post-Katrina Litigation and the Homeowners
Market in Mississippi,” Thomas S. Marshall, CPCU, CLU, CIC,
and Faith R. Neale, Ph.D., review the Katrina litigation with
a primary focus on the flood and anti-concurrent cause exclusions and
the burden of proof regarding these exclusions. Read
it today, and subscribe

WE’RE
“SPREADING THE WORD!”
July
Visibility Spotlight Winner “Spreads the Word!” Through Online
Communities
As visibility
chair for the Mt. Diablo California Chapter, Thanh Hoang, CPCU, WCCP,
a senior underwriter at Liberty Mutual, uses the power of social media
to spread the word about the CPCU designation. One event the chapter
markets online is a happy hour, designed to target nonmember CPCUs and
prospective CPCU candidates. “After the happy hour was advertised
via the Web through various online communities, we received many inquiries,
including questions specifically about CPCU, from potential career switchers,
students looking at the insurance field as a possible profession, and
even insurance company professionals in various operational areas,” he
said. Read more in the
July Visibility Spotlight. In recognition for his “Spread the
Word!” efforts, Hoang will receive a business card holder with
the CPCU Society logo.
Get the
recognition you deserve! To
be considered for the Visibility Spotlight, send
us an e-mail with
details on how you “Spread the Word!” Or send a submission
through any of the online
feedback tools.
Please include figures on how many people you have reached through
your visibility efforts. |
